when we met
we were soon lying back
on the unburnt grass
looking up at the noon vapor constellations
and seeing the darkness beyond
when you said
we are tight connected
but just for a brief
respite before the beginnings of the countdown
and joining the darkness beyond
where we’ll find
we are free of orbits
and separate propelled
upward fired from our internal combustions
then unlinked
we are off from the dirt
and from each other
looking down at the low and large arrangements
and seeing the darkness beyond
then you’ll say
this is our rocketry
this is not promises
this is not angry prophecy
