Tomorrow Away

I have waited and I
am sorry for the waiting
while we were waking and I
did not know what I would say
but we can pretend it’s just for today

we can travel tonight and together
unawake and high with the weather
to stand in spring when the stream begins
and watch it carry away
and we can pretend it’s just for today

we can throw our rocks in the water
together on some holy day
we can leave our promises
for the stream to carry away
then we can pretend it’s just for today

we can walk down to the end
in a lighthouse ruin’s circle
by the ocean till the rising salinity
is past our time left to stay
then we can pretend it’s just for today

in all these dreams
in all these expectations
we have lost a tomorrow
along the way
but we can pretend it’s just for today
