One-sided Love Poem

When I said I saw you paper thin
I meant no disrespect

When I said I saw you paper thin
I saw you folded
layered, overlayered, pointed
animalistic in silhouette
chimeric in turnings
changing self by the shifting of the shadows
in the sunlight angled by

When I said I saw you paper thin
I saw you textured
skin surface tree bark bumped
grooved from creation
and with messages after
in scrapings in ink in graphite
light gray on dark gray on black
layered, overlayered, jumbled
multilingual, cryptographic
indecipherable, nonsensical
unpronounceable in the rhythm of the letters
with the meaning passing by

When I said I saw you paper thin
I saw you ragged
in torn edges
glass shard molecule thick pointed
to slice, skin separating
without blood
or pain flowing by
